IHL-MSC Malaysia Startup Challenge 2016

The IHL-MSC Malaysia Start-up Challenge (i-MSC), previously known as MSC Malaysia-IHL Business Plan Competition (MIBPC), is currently in its 11th cycle. The competition now has a new approach and has broadened its participation requirements as it looks to attract more students to participate in the competition. It also hopes to give students a more hands-on experience before and after their submissions.

The i-MSC provides an attractive avenue for students to solve real problems for real customers. At the same time, they'll also be able to acquire knowledge and entrepreneurship skills. Students who are interested to explore entrepreneurship and have innovative ideas  can be identified through this competition.

" We used Alpha Catalyst's Challenge Platform for 2 cycles (2014&2015) of the IHL-MSC Malaysia Startup Challenge (i-MSC).

It transform the conventional competition submission, mentoring and judging process into a consolidated online platform that was easily accessible, user-friendly, packed with challenge administration tools that increased the efficiency in running the challenge. The software additionally enabled us to introduce more complex structures and formats throughout the competition (changing submission categories and the evaluation criteria at each stage, as teams advanced through the competition). Participating teams had a seamless and structured process of submitting entries, while team mentors could easily coach and guide teams remotely. The linkages to social media also provided a more engaging experience for the participant. Judges' experience had changed tremendously when they could conduct the evaluation of the submissions online at their own pace and the scores and comments were captured systematically. During the final judging, the software provided transparency and was able to illustrate differences in views very quickly and accurately. Compared to our previous method, the final deliberation to identify winners was more efficient. Employing the software gave us the capacity to completely digitise the challenge thus reducing the time, cost and resources needed to organise and manage the event."
