ACC presented at the Asia Facilitator’s Conference in Kuala Lumpur on the 25th and 26th July 2007
ACC’s team presented at the recent Asia Facilitator’s Conference. Our topic was on Fundamentals of Flexibility in Facilitation – Lessons Learned from the Kensankai Aikido Dojo.
Session Overview:
Facilitation as we know is a blend of art and science. Hence one of the key challenges is the uncertainty and ambiguity that surfaces with any facilitation assignment. This highly interactive and “physical” session prepares the participants to deal with these challenges by exposing them to the lessons learned from the Kensankai (Deep Study) Aikido dojo. Aikido is a Japanese martial art that focuses on peace and harmony. Its main application is for self-defense that uses minimal strength and aggression. Size does not matter in Aikido and each practitioner is encouraged to have a calm and open mind that is ready for anything; a perfect metaphor for facilitators seeking to enhance their flexibility and flow during facilitation assignments.
Session Objective:
• Build personal flexibility and openness to face uncertainty, unexpected events & circumstances and new possibilities.
• Understand how to increase the level of self-awareness to enhance facilitation effectiveness.
• Learn how to manage conflicts, attacks, adversity and diversity in a calm and peaceful manner.
